Playing the Blues with the best!

Just back from my annual trip to help run the Bristol UK International Harmonica Festival!  Yet another fabulous weekend.  After it was over, I went to Eddie Martin's regular Sunday evening gig at The Old Duke (-famous for live jazz and blues 7 nights a week). Eddie kindly invited me to play piano at the end of his show, because he said he loved my blues and boogie woogie. Jon Vaughan was also on harmonica, and the joint was jumpin'. Thanks Eddie and Jon.

You need great entertainment!

Now is the time to honour classic Blues and Boogie Woogie, and all the other styles of music that came from those roots.

I'm your man- so please give me a call, and let's see how I could help, to get that Speakeasy vibe that will suit you.

my video has 11.7 million views so far!

Yes- a Youtube video of Sainsbury's 2014 Xmas TV advert, has been viewed 11.7million times... so far!

I am one of the singers on that ad (in August, at Elbow's 'Blueprint Studio'). I also recorded a harmonica track, although that wasn't needed for the final version.  Yes, it is clearly an advertisement: but it also tells a moving human story- it pays tribute to ordinary soldiers without glorifying war- and it will help raise money for the Royal British Legion. So I am proud to have been part of this project.

In other news- I am now busy with booking solo gigs, and also Spokespeople duo/band dates. Please just call me if you need entertainment- Dave on 0797 901 1106   ^.^

Spring and Summer 2014....

Weather looking ok now- Spring and Summer are in the air. I've enjoyed playing recent (solo) gigs on guitar and piano, for Residential Homes, Community Groups, private parties, jam sessions, and venues such as The Rosylee Tearooms and The Whim Wham Cafe. I am also planning a solo harmonica show of favourite old tunes to play in Care Homes. And of course, I am always ready to help with music tuition.  Please do get in touch with me, if you want to discuss anything- thanks, Dave.

Inland Boat Cruise- and learn harmonica!

Very nice to be asked to teach an introduction to blues, folk and country harmonica, on a weekend narrowboat trip. From Friday 27 until Sunday 29 September 2013, you can cruise on the 'Wandering Duck', learning how to sail on scenic canals in the North West of England. A special Cajun meal will put you in the mood for a few sessions of basic (and intermediate) harmonica-playing, and going to a gig on the Saturday evening. Your all-in price includes your own brand-new harmonica and musical information to take away with you. This promises to be a fascinating, memorable weekend.

boogie woogie- keep it 8-to-the-bar!

I am going to the UK boogie woogie festival for the first time. But this is their 9th year- who'd have thought Sturminster Newton deep in rural Dorset, would host top players from around the world?

This year, Bob Seeley headlines- surely the top boogie player in the world, he knew, learned from, and worked with Meade Lux Lewis!

Boogie piano has always remained popular on the continent of Europe- Balazs Daniel (Hungary), Eeco Rijken Rapp (NL), Jean-Paul Amouroux (France), Lasse Jensen (Denmark), Patrick Smet (Belgium), Henk Huisman (NL) will all be there this year.  Plus from UK- Big John Carter, Simon King, Emily Lees, Daniel Moore, James Goodwin. Other instruments provided by guitarist Chris Corcoran's trio, and others. And lots of dance events, classes, workshops.

Sounds a great weekend!
